Abalone shell for burning incense or white sage. This type of burning is an ancient Native American practice in which herbs and/or fragrant woods such as white sage and palo santo are bundled into the abalone shell and burned. It is part of a ritual ceremony, for example to energetically cleanse a house or a room or place. The natural holes in the shell ensure air supply.
