Parvati means "the one from the mountains" because her parents are seen as HIMAVAT, the mountains of the Himalayan massif. She is often portrayed as a beautiful woman, an example for all women. Parvati is also known as Kali or Durga. She is the mother of Ganesha and that is why people often pray to her so that she can take good care of others. Parvati is usually considered as the main helper and wife of Shiva. Shiva and Parvati have two sons, Ganesha and Skanda. They are often depicted in groups of four on Mount Kailash.
